For nearly 20 years, Firm Founder Annisa Aaliyya Chua focused most of her practice on the traditional spheres of IP from initial filings to prosecution. However, her passion for protecting the planet along with a confluence of epiphanies led her to include corporate environmental responsibility as a core aspect of her practice.

Ms. Chua believes businesses want to protect the environment upon which all life, including theirs, depends. Accordingly, she makes compelling businesses cases to help clients protect their IP while simultaneously teaching them how to protect the environment and remain profitable.

The future of IP law is changing. Ms. Chua’s revolutionary approach to IP advocacy helps her clients get ahead of what is coming. She asks this one ‘elephant in the boardroom’ question: "Who says Intellectual Property has no relationship with environmental sustainability?" Every business must answer this question by including a focus on aligning environmental protections in their business model, messaging and branding to retain their existing consumers and attract new ones.

Ms. Chua is a British educated lawyer with a BA (Hons) in Social Sciences, Barrister-at-Law member of the Honourable Society of Lincoln’s Inn admitted to practice in Malaysia. She has an inter-disciplinary background in international relations and diplomacy with an interest on anthropogenic climate change. Her final thesis for her MA Global Diplomacy with University of London’s SOAS was entitled “Global Environmental Governance and the Challenge of Capitalism.”

She is presently an MSc candidate on the course Global Energy & Climate Policy with SOAS via distance learning.

Ms. Chua is a member of the Asian Patent Attorneys Association (APAA), European Community Trademark Association (ECTA), International Trademark Association (INTA). During previous tenures at other IP firms in Kuala Lumpur she co-authored articles for The World Trademark Law Reporter and The World Copyright Law Reporter under her then name, Dorothy Chua.

She has native proficiency in English, full professional proficiency in Malay, elementary proficiency in German and spoken only basic Chinese.
